This help article is for configuring Assembly notification channels in Slack.
If your organization uses Slack, you can configure which Slack channels receive Assembly notifications for different post types like recognition, announcements, awards, and celebrations. You can send everything to one channel, or route each post type to its own dedicated channel
You can connect to both Slack and MS Teams at the same time.
All plans can connect their Assembly account to Slack.
Once connected, you can choose to send all Assembly posts (recognition, awards, birthday/anniversary/new hire celebrations, announcements) to a single channel, or route each post type to a separate channel (.
You can edit your channel settings or disconnect at any time.
Only public Slack channels can be selected or created. Private channels are not supported.
Only Admins can set up and manage notification channel settings. The admin must also have permission to manage channels in the connected Slack workspace.
Go to the Admin account
In the left-hand menu, click Account ā Integrations
Click Connect & setup next to Slack. This will redirect you to Slack to provide authorization.
After successful authorization, you will be redirected to Slack Settings where you can choose between Separate Channels and Single Channel
Next step is to configure your notification channels.
Under Channel settings, you will see two options:
Separate channels: Send each post type (Recognition, Announcements, Awards, Birthday celebrations, Work anniversaries, New hire celebrations) to its own Slack channel. This is the default for new connections.
Single channel: Send all Assembly posts to one Slack channel. This is the default for existing connections set up before this feature.
You can switch between these options at any time.
Select Separate channels tab.
You will see a list of post types enabled in your Assembly. Post types marked with an asterisk (*) are required.
For each post type you can:
Select an existing public channel from the dropdown, or
Create a new public channel by typing a name and clicking create a new channel. You can also select No channel for optional post types.
Note: Recognition always requires a channel. You cannot set it to "No channel."
If a post type is not yet activated by you in your Assembly, you will see an Activate link next to it. Click it to go to that feature's settings page and turn it on.
Click Save.
Select Single channel tab
Select an existing public channel or create a new channel where you want all Assembly notification to be shared.
Click Save.
If the channel you need does not exist:
Type the channel name in the input field.
If no exact match exists, click Create a new channel from the drop down list.
Assembly will validate the name and create a public channel in Slack.
All members who are part of your Assembly will be added to the new channel automatically. This runs in the background and may take 1 to 2 minutes.
If some members could not be added, you will receive an notification with the list of members to add manually.
NOTE: You can click Refresh channels at any time to pull in new channels created directly in Slack.
Public posts go to the configured channel that you saved.
Private posts go as a direct message (DM) to the recipient, not to any channel.
Announcements sent to "Everyone" go to the configured Announcements channel.
Announcements sent to a specific group go as DMs to each member of the group.
If you want to edit or disconnect your slack integration, follow the below steps:
Go to the Admin account
In the left-hand menu, click Account ā Integrations
Click Settings next to Slack.
Update your channel configuration and click Save to apply changes. If you leave without saving, a prompt will ask you to confirm.
Click Disconnect to remove Assembly from your Slack workspace. A confirmation will appear before the connection is removed. Members will no longer receive Assembly notifications in Slack.
If a connected channel is deleted or archived in Slack, Assembly will show a warning on the Integrations page. Notifications for the affected post type will stop until you select a new channel.
If a channel is renamed, Assembly updates the name automatically.
